Abstract

Computer simulations of TEM images of dislocations are used for a quantitative analysis of stable dislocations in the very highly anisotropic (A ≈ 15) β1phase of CuZnAl alloys. It is shown that the glide systems in this phase are edge dislocations with b = 〈001〉 on {010} planes and mixed dislocations with 〈001〉 Burgers vector on {110} planes (u ≈ 〈111〉). Plastic deformation of single crystals, under conditions where 〈001〉 type dislocations are forbidden, shows that the secondary glide system are screw 〈111〉 dislocations. Energy curves calculated around the direction of the dislocation lines and for an elastic anisotropy parameter A = 15, are in good agreement with all those results.
