Synopsis This paper presents a method for predicting the deflections of reinforced concrete slabs from zero load to failure, taking account of the effect of the membrane forces produced by the slab flexure. A comparison is made between typical theoretical predictions and the results of a series of slab tests. In the light of this, the applicability of the method is then assessed.
