The rate of the thermal isomerization of methyl isocyanide is reduced by about 20% when the system is pressurized with 100 atm of propane, but is unaffected when the system is pressurized with carbon dioxide. It is suggested that these observations can be explained by the presence of a concurrent free-radical catalyzed isomerization.
