Abstract

Hyperglycemia is a major cause of the systemic inflammatory response. Maintaining normal blood glucose, by avoiding overfeeding and providing insulin therapy when necessary, appears key to minimizing oxidative stress and systemic inflammation when intravenous nutrition is provided.
