Abstract The evaporation of metallic gold into an ethanolic solution of bis(diphenylphosphino)‐methane (dppmH) and NH 4 NO 3 results in the formation of [Au 5 (dppmH) 3 (dppm)](NO 3 ) 2 with (dppm) = [Ph 2 PCHPPh 2 ] − ; an X‐Ray structure analysis revealed the presence of a Au‐C bond. Full physical data, including 197 Au‐Mössbauer, are presented. The icosahedral Au 13 (dppmH) 6 cation was prepared by reacting an ethanolic solution of Au 2 (dppmH)(NO 3 ) 2 with NaBH 4 ; an X‐ray study is reported.
