Abstract

In a survey of new glaucoma clinic patients over 40 years of age, which was carried out in I968 and was based on the appearance of the optic disc (Primrose, 1969), it early became clear to me that the peripapillary halo or ring, commonly considered to be more a senile than a glaucomatous condition, was in fact more than twice as likely to be associated with chronic simple glaucoma as not (Table) and that it occurred at an early stage of the disease.
