Complications of Hemophilic Disorders Affecting the Renal Tract

Abstract

Patients with bleeding disorders may bleed into tissues or from damaged skin and mucosal surfaces. Repeated hemorrhage into joints leads to arthropathy. Bleeding from the renal tract may not be recognized as a sign of a severe bleeding disorder in patients who have not undergone excretory urography. Awareness of other possible causes of hematuria, the possible consequences of retained blood clots, and the risk of progressive renal damage should prompt more frequent investigation of the urinary tract in such patients.
