Linguistics: An Introduction

Abstract

This is an introduction to linguistic methodology and linguistic theory, for use as a core text in a one-semester undergraduate or graduate course. Rather than attempting to treat the full-range of associated topics of linguistics (which few instructors can cover in one semester), Napoli examines five core topics in depth, and explains them from the perspective of current scholarship rather than outdated theories. Problem sets are included with each chapter.
