Data on prevalence, incidence, and mortality have yielded a general estimate of the burden of these disorders. Nevertheless, this information is limited in a number of ways. Available data on prevalence and incidence are based on samples of the general population within selected age groups or special social or occupational groups (2); data on mortality have the obvious limitations relating to accuracy of certification and being confined to the terminal event in the natural history of an illness with...References1.
