Abstract

A new digital versatile disc recordable (DVD-R), called a metal polymer deformation (MPD) DVD-R, which has a thin metal film between the polycarbonate (PC) substrate and dye layer, was fabricated and its recording properties were evaluated. The relationship between deformation shape on the recorded area and recording characteristics was studied. The light stability of this disc was compared with that of conventional DVD-R. The thin metal layer of the MPD DVD-R improves the recording sensitivity, the modulated amplitude, and the light stability, and widens the window of the dye selection criteria for the DVD-R.
