The decomposition of equimolar NaCl-KCl mixed crystals is studied at temperatures from 344 to 457 °C by the capacitance method. The results indicate that the decomposition process takes place in three stages. The first of these is nucleation, the second the actual decomposition, and the third the growth in crystallite size. Good agreement is found when the experimental results for the first stage of the process are compared with those derived from the diffusion theory of spinodal decomposition.
