Preparation and properties of 1,4‐dihydrobenzene and of the addition and substitution products produced from it by the action of bromine

Abstract

Abstract 1,4‐Dihydrobenzene has been obtained by reducing benzene by the method of Wooster and has been prepared in a pure state; the structure of this hydrocarbon is apparent from the formation of malonic acid and benzoquinone on oxidation. Some of its physical constants have been determined. The addition products with bromine. C 6 H 8 Br 2 and C 6 H 8 Br 4 , are described.
