He taught at the University of Maryland and the University of Michigan and has been a faculty member at the Technion in Haifa since 1972. His main research interest is geometric function theory, and he developed, together with Harold S. Shapiro, the theory of "quadrature domains." He has also made contributions in various other areas including several complex variables, quasiconformal mappings, dynamical systems, differential equations, complex approximation, and circle packing.Alan BeardonALAN BEARDON received his Ph.D. degree from Imperial College, London, in 1964 and has taught at the University of Maryland, the University of Canterbury, and since 1968, the University of Cambridge. His research interests are geometry, geometric function theory, discrete groups, dynamical systems, and mathematical economics. He is the author of five books, and a winner of the Lester R. Ford prize for an expository paper in this Monthly.Kathy DriverKATHY DRIVER received her Ph.D. degree in 1991 from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she has been a faculty member since 1973. Her main research interests are special functions, orthogonal polynomials, and approximation theory.
