LINEAR GROWTH, SULPHATION FACTOR ACTIVITY AND CHROMOSOME CONSTITUTION IN 22 SUBJECTS WITH TURNER'S SYNDROME

ABSTRACT Linear growth, sulphation factor (SF) activity and chromosome constitution were studied in 22 subjects with Turner's syndrome. Linear growth rate was retarded, and the final body height decreased. SF activity was decreased in one, normal in nine and increased in 12 patients, and the mean serum SF activity was increased in all age groups studied. Six different sex chromosome constitutions were observed, three with mosaicism. No obvious relationships were found in our patients between linear growth rate and SF activity, on the one hand, and chromosome constitution on the other. It is tentatively suggested that the pituitary growth hormone in Turner's syndrome does not stimulate growth in the usual manner.
