A study of the composition of the absorbed dose and dose equivalent was carried out in a 30 cm thick slab of tissue-equivalent phantom. The doses for high energy protons of up to 660 MeV in the phantom were calculated on the basis of measured double differential cross-sections of proton interactions with light nuclei. A considerable contribution of secondary radiation to the total dose for high energy protons (Ep > = 250 MeV) was noted. The calculated data appeared to be in good agreement with the results of the direct measurement of doses in the phantom made with the ionization chamber. The difference between the method of calculation used and that of Zerby and Kinney has been pointed out.
