Abstract

SUMMARY The incidence of ureteric reflux in fifteen patients after operations on seventeen ureteric orifices has been assessed by micturating cystography and its significances discussed. Reflux can best be detected by micturating cystography and reports on a larger series would seem desirable. The cystoscopic appearance of the orifice is of little value in deciding whether reflux occurs. The relative importance of reflux and infection in the production of chronic pyelonephritis is discussed. Incision of ureteroceles with cystoscopic scissors seems to be preferable to their destruction by diathermy. Post‐operative micturating cystography is advised for patients who have had operations on the ureteric orifice.
