Abstract The oxidative addition reactions of thiocyanogen with the complexes trans- [M (P (C6H5)3)2 (CO) X] (M[dbnd]Rh (I), Ir (I); X[dbnd]Cl, -NCO, -NCS) and diphosAu2X2 (diphos[dbnd] (C6H5)2PCH2CH2P (C6H5)2; X[dbnd]Cl, -NCO, -SCN) are described. No oxidative addition was observed in the reaction of thiocyanogen with trans-[Pd (P-(C6H5)3)22)2Cl2], a thiocyanate-bridged complex, [Pd2 (P(C6H5)3)2-(SCN)2Cl2], being isolated instead. Solid state and solution infrared spectral data are reported for the newly synthesized complexes.
