Characteristics of light induced annealing in irradiated optical fibres

Abstract

Transmission losses produced in fibre-optics by ionising radiation may be annealed by the signal light. Results are presented for the dependence of the effect on the light power level and its wavelength. Losses which are thus annealed appear to be related to strain in the fibre.
