A novel photodetection scheme using ionic liquid gated graphene field-effect transistors (FET) with plasmonic Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) is reported. The incident light is transduced into graphene FET channel conductance change by coupling the light induced plasmonic field on Ag-NPs to the FET gating field via the electrical double layer of the ionic liquid. Significantly enhanced photoresponsivity peaked at the localized surface plasmonic resonance wavelength is demonstrated.
