Abstract

Abstract Mixed azomethine mononuclear copper (II) complexes of the type [CuLL'] where, L = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoylimine-2-pyrazolene-5-ol and L'[dbnd]acetylacetonimine or benzoylacetonimine or dibenzoylmethanimine or L = acetylacetonimine and L' = benzoylacetonimine or dibenzoylmethanimine or L = benzoylacetonimine and L' = dibenzoylmethanimine have been synthesised by the template method. Binuclear complexes of copper (II) have been synthesised by the reactions of aminoalkanols or aminothiols with the ternary Schiff base complexes. In these reactions one of the ligands combines with the aminoalkanols o r aminothiols forming a tridentate Schiff base ligd, whereas the other ligdis removed, depending upon the reactivity of the coordinated β-dilretones. The complexes thus formed have two copper (11) centres bridged through oxygen or sulfur atom. The reactivity of coordinated β-diketones was found to be in the following order: Structure and composition of the complexes have been established on the basis of their elemental analyses, molecular weights, magnetic moments, electranic spectra, infrared spectra and thermogravimetric analysis.
