Abstract 2-Substituted 4,6-bis(trichloromethyl)-s-triazines have been prepared by the cotrimerization of CCl3CN with some nitriles. The reaction proceeds, in general, smoothly at ordinary pressure in the presence of hydrogen halide or Friedel-Crafts catalyst-hydrogen halide complex. An improved method was developed for the nitriles such as propionitrile with which CCl3CN did not easily cotrimerize under above mentioned conditions.
