A piezoelectric method of measuring the vertical contact stress beneath the human foot

Abstract

A new piezoelectric device has been developed for measuring the vertical contact stresses generated between the plantar surface of the foot and the insole of a shoe during walking and running. This paper describes the device and its associated data processing and display system and presents an example of the sort of detailed information that can be obtained from it.
