Communication: Transformer cores and read‐write heads are two applications of micronsized ferrite powders. The powders (see figure) can be synthesized by the thermal decomposition of precursors in a solid solution, where, generally, atmospheric oxygen can be thought of as the oxidant. However, due to the low yields (∼15%) of these processes an alternative has been developed based on the exothermicity of the redox reaction between metal nitrates (oxidants) and tetraformal trisazine or oxalic acid dihydrazide (fuels). magnified image
