The Phylogeny of the Agaonidae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea)

Abstract

This is an interim report on the analysis of the relationships within the Agaonidae (fig wasps). The family is subdivided into the two subfamilies Agaoninae and Blastophaginae. In the Agaoninae, three groups are recognized, according to their geographical distribution (i.e., Africa, Australia c.a., South America). In the Blastophaginae, one complex is formed by some species hitherto classified with Blastophaga (C and D), Ceratosolen and Kradibia; Liporrhopalum appears related. A fit with the botanical classification is only apparent between the Agaonid genera and the (sub)sections of Ficus, but does not seem to exist at a higher level.
