A key to larvae of Melanotus communis (Gyllenhal), M. cribulosus (LeConte), M. depressus (Melsh.), M. dietrichi Quate, M. lanei Quate, M. opacicollis LeConte, M. pilosus Blatchley, M. similis (Kirby) and M. verberans (LeConte) is presented with larval descriptions and figures of the important characters. Larvae of M. depressus, M. dietrichi, M. lanei, M. opacicollis, M. pilosus, and M. verberans are described for the 1st time.
