Abstract

The days when books were a rare and prohibitively expensive commodity have long passed, and indeed there has been somewhat of a flood of medical publications since World War II. There is still a problem, however, in finding books which are well organized, well written, and reasonably complete. Too often new books or new editions of old ones carry on outmoded dogma and errors of the past. Unfortunately they often are inadequate as reference works, and sometimes they are already outdated by the time of publication. Such criticisms cannot be leveled at Dr. Bellet's latest contribution. This encyclopedic volume contains a tremendous amount of detailed and yet useful information. It bears little resemblance to the first edition which was perhaps adequate in its time but which can hardly be compared with the present edition.
