Further research might follow two lines. First, an attempt might be made to identify in more detail the family and community factors which lead to a demand for hospital care, and to study preventive measures and alternative ways of meeting needs. Second, an investi- gation of the trends in birth and death rates of sub- normal individuals would allow predictions to be made of the size of the future population from which hospital cases will arise.
