Abstract

LTHOUCH tumors of the epididymis are A rare, they have been carefully studied in recent years. In December, 1954, Cowen was able to collect 134 cases from the literature, 74 per cent of which were benign and 26 per cent malignant.T h e reported cases, however, do not include a convincing example of papillary cystadenoma originating in this region.Because of the evident rarity of the condition, this case is considered worth reporting. CASE HISTORYA white male engineer, 21 years old, noted swelling of the left scrotum for six or seven months, accompanied by slight aching in the left groin. At the age of 16, the patient had infectious mononucleosis. There had been no operations and no serious illnesses. On physical examination the patient was well developed and nourished. There were no significant abnormalities except for a 5-cm.cystlike mass surrounding the left testis.T h e left inguinal ring admitted one finger.Laboratory Data.T h e blood Kahn test was negative; urine, normal; hematocrit, 46 per cent; white-blood-cell count, 9100 per cu.mm.; and the differential count, normal.
