Abstract A simplified procedure for selective isolation of ethynyl steroids from urine is described. Urinary steroids are extracted with Sep-PakR C18 and subjected to enzyme hydrolysis. The liberated steroids are extracted with Lipidex 1000 and the eluate from this column is passed through a bed of sulfohydroxypropyl Sephadex LH-20, partly converted into silver form by a wash with aqueous silver nitrate. Ethynyl steroids are eluted with a solution of acetylene in methanol.
