Selenocysteine codons decrease polysome association on endogenous selenoprotein mRNAs

Abstract

These results suggest that the presence of a selenocysteine codon confers a translational penalty on selenoprotein mRNAs, and that increased levels of release factors may alter the kinetics of termination.
