Metabelian Groups of Type (<i>FP</i>)_∞ are Virtually of Type (<i>FP</i>)

Abstract

The theorem of the title is proved. The methods involve consideration of valuations of finitely generated abelian groups and some corresponding finiteness conditions on modules over such groups. Results of independent interest on the latter are obtained.
