Abstract

• We had a patient with dermatitis caused by the bite ofOrnithonyssus bacoti(Hirst), commonly referred to as the tropical rat mite. The bite of this mite resulted in a severely pruritic papular dermatitis in our patient. Accurate identification of the mite indicated the presence of rat infestation.
