The ten years that have passed between the second and third editions of this classic textbook have seen countless advances in pharmacology and therapeutics. Clinicians, researchers, and students have all felt the need for this revision. The same high qualities found in the earlier editions have been retained. The book is arranged so that the most important aspects are highlighted and very readable; yet more detailed information is available in smaller print for those wishing to probe further. The references are up-to-date and include monographs and reviews in addition to original articles. The index has been expanded and is very thorough. Despite the addition of recent data, including two new chapters, this edition contains 46 fewer pages than its predecessor. Part of this page reduction is achieved by the deletion of some outdated material and by using smaller print for topics covering history, preparations, and less popular drugs. The major
