A water-soluble polysiloxane-block-polyferrocene diblock copolymer has been synthesized using sequential anionic and transition metal-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization. This material represents the first example of a diblock copolymer soluble in aqueous media with a hydrophilic organometallic polyelectrolyte block.
