An experimental study has been conducted to research the behavior of liquid jets injected transversely into a subsonic crossflow of air. Three injection liquids, water, Jet-A and N- Heptane, and two injection diameters of 0.381 and 0.762 mm, have been used. Pulsed shadowgraphy and Phase Doppler and Particle Analyzer (PDPA) were used to take measurements. The behaviors of the jet column, the post-breakup spray, as well as the penetration and breakup have been studied. Two breakup modes have been observed, column and surface breakup. The streamwise location of breakup is constant while the transverse location increases with momentum ratios. Jet penetrations have been correlated with momentum ratio, injector diameter and the streamwise distance. Volume flux exhibits a maximum in the spray core. Droplet sizes decrease with an increase in the crossflow velocity while penetration increases with an increase in injector diameter or momentum ratio. Droplet size exhibits a maximum in the spray core for low momentum ratios and near the periphery for high momentum ratios.
