Exostectomy for plantar ulceration is demonstrated to be a satisfactory procedure and one with significantly less morbidity and quicker healing than a more major reconstructive procedure such as arthrodesis. The predominance of Type I (mid-foot breakdown) confirms reports on the natural history of the diabetic Charcot tarsus; the midfoot has a tendency to develop symptomatic bony prominences.
