The prevalence of renal cysts detected by US in a health-screened population from the Middle East was 4.2%. Increasing age, male gender and a higher serum creatinine level were significant independent risk factors for cyst development. There was also a relatively high prevalence of associated renal pathologies (increased parenchymal echogenicity and stones).
