High‐Capacitance Ion Gel Gate Dielectrics with Faster Polarization Response Times for Organic Thin Film Transistors

The use of an ion gel as the gate insulator in polymer TFTs is described. The ion gel is composed of an ionic liquid and a triblock copolymer, and provides a very large specific capacitance, which allows both low voltage operation and high transconductance. Ion-gel-gated TFTs can be switched at a rate of 1 kHz and the response time is strongly correlated to the ionic conductivity.
