Abstract A realistic simulation of the injection molding process should be capable of describing moldability parameters, such as pressure drop in the delivery system and cavity and melt‐front progression during cavity filling, as well as predicting the characteristics of the final product, such as residual stresses and crystallinity distributions. After a brief review of the existing models for the mathematical modeling of the injection molding process, a new model, that meets the above requirements, is proposed.
