Honeycomb has turned out to be an outstanding buffered material. In regards to energy absorber design, how to accurately evaluate the energy-absorbing capacity of any piece of honeycomb core block becomes an urgent issue. This article presents a direct assessment methodology for axial compressed hexagonal honeycomb. Series theoretical formulas for TEA (total energy absorption) and SEA (specific energy absorption) against geometrical configuration and loading situation were constructed based on folded elements. Afterwards, corresponding experiments and numerical simulations were performed. Excellent correlation has been observed between them. This methodology provides an efficient way to aid in a honeycomb's design and selection.
