Chemistry of acetylenic ethers 71: Acetylenic benzyl ethers and their rearrangement into 2‐indanones

Abstract

Abstract Acetylenic benzyl ethers, IV, with R  CH 3 or C 2 H 5 and R′  H or CH 3 have been prepared according to the scheme below. These compounds rearrange very easily into 1,3‐dialkyl‐2‐indanones, V, on refluxing in tetrachloromethane and into 1‐hydroxy‐1‐phenyl‐2‐alkynes with sodamide in liquid ammonia.
