They may also occur during cardiac catheterization (2). Our laboratory previously reported three patients with embolization in whom a new finding, protruding masses with mobile components in the aortic arch and descending aorta, was seen during transesophageal echocardiography (3). We have subsequently found protruding plaques in another 29 patients. One of these patients had surgical exploration of the aortic arch because of four emboli during a 2-month period. The existence and location of the protruding plaque in this patient would not have been known...References1. Braunwald E, ed. Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. Philadelphia: W.B.
