Abstract A previous paper (Marinangeli and Ollis, 1977) considered light transport in a single optical fiber which was coated with a heterogeneous photoassisted catalyst. This paper analyzes simultaneous mass, heat, and light transport in a catalyst on a single fiber, and in a likely large‐scale configuration, a bundle of parallel, catalyst‐coated optical fibers. The dimensionless temperature rise is dominated by energy released by light absorption, with the heat of reaction contributing to a lesser degree.
