Abstract

Summary. The haemagglutinating and precipitating activity of an extract of Castor beans is shown to be inhibited specifically by galactose and other sugars with the same structure at carbon atoms 2, 3, and 4. It appears that the castor bean haemagglutinin reacts with any molecule containing this structure.
