Under negative ion chemical ionization conditions, the radical anion of tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) undergoes a novel reaction with oxygen to produce an ion which is characteristic of structure and easily identified in the presence of other halogenocarbon contaminants.
