Abstract

Grocott's methenamine silver, Jones' periodic acid methenamine silver, Pascual's modification of Grimelius' stain, Fontana-Masson, and Perls' stains have been modified to use a microwave oven as a source of heat for accelerating metal deposition. The impregnations may be performed on frozen sections, paraffinembedded sections, and glycol methacrylate embedded sections. Using a microwave oven markedly reduces the staining times and decreases background precipitate deposition.
