Magnetic properties of the novel layered compounds<i>RE</i><sub>3</sub>Ru<sub>4</sub>Al<sub>12</sub>(<i>RE</i>= La-Nd)

We successfully synthesized a new ternary compound La3Ru4Al12 using an arc-melting technique and systematically measured magnetization of a series of ternary compounds RE3Ru4Al12 (RE = La-Nd). X-ray diffraction results demonstrated that all RE3Ru4Al12 possess the same crystal structure with space group P63/mmc . La3Ru4Al12 and Ce3Ru4Al12 showed paramagnetic behaviors in magnetization, while Pr3Ru4Al12 and Nd3Ru4Al12 showed a ferromagnetic ordering at about 40 K. Their Curie temperatures TC were carefully estimated from so-called Arrott plots.
