Retrograde Brachial Angiography in Cerebrovascular Disease

Abstract

Recent reemphasis of the need for complete vascular study of patients with cerebrovascular disease requires reevaluation of the methods used.^2,5,6,16,27The value of carotid angiography is well known. Retrograde brachial angiography in cerebrovascular disease is becoming more popular because of its dependability and accuracy. It is the purpose of this paper to discuss brachial angiography from the standpoint of value in the study of cerebrovascular disease and the x-ray findings obtained in a series of 200 consecutive cases studied by 4 vessel angiography. It should be pointed out that with retrograde brachial angiography, the origin of the right common carotid artery is seen only in 24% of the cases and that of the left common carotid artery in 3% (see Comment later). <h3>Material</h3> The 200 cases consist of 121 male and 79 female patients.
