Central values of Rankin L-functions

Abstract

We prove a formula of Gross type for the central critical values of L-functions, which are associated to Hilbert newforms twisted by a finite CM character. The formula expresses the central value as a multiple of the geometric pairing of certain CM cycles on a manifold constructed from an inner form of PGL(2). The result is also a generalization of Zhang's formula to the higher weight case.
