Comparative optical study of thulium-doped YAlO₃and GdVO₄single crystals

Abstract

Absorption and emission spectra of Tm 3+ in YAlO 3 and GdVO 4 single crystals are reported and analyzed. Lifetimes of 1 G 4 (22 μs) 3 F 4 (5.1 ms) states in YAlO 3 and 1 G 4 (16 μs) 3 F 4 (2.3 ms) states in GdVO 4 are measured, Fluorescence decay curves of blue and infrared emissions are also been given. In addition, widely tunable laser performances of Tm:YAlO 3 and Tm:GdVO 4 lasers are demonstrated.
